Sharing The Love Of Christ...
Sharing the love of Christ with others is a part of the mission statement of SJPC. Presbyterians believe that we are all called to be ministers in homes, workplaces, community and world. SJPC supports a number of important outreach programs - local, national and global. In addition, the Sunday bulletins and monthly newsletter - The Scroll - announce frequent opportunities for more “hands-on” involvement in mission and outreach. SJPC needs everyone’s time, talents and service in its ministry.
Just some of the many organizations and other outreach activities SJPC supports with funding and/or hands-on volunteers include:
Two Cents a Meal, with quarterly collections at SJPC , supports our brothers and sisters in mission in Jamaica. Click here for information about this program of our Presbytery.
The Congregational Care Committee at SJPC provides a number of ministries that serve the SJPC family. These activities give members an opportunity to use their gifts to serve others. Some of these opportunities are:
Shepherd for Christ. This ministry assists shut-ins, elderly, and handicapped members who are unable to participate regularly in the life of the church. Through visitation, cards, telephone cards and prayer, these members are kept close to our hearts.
Homebound Communion. Upon prior scheduling, the sacrament of communion is celebrated with our homebound members by active and inactive SJPC elders and deacons.
Fellowship. Opportunities such as Wholly Wednesday Suppers and Sunday morning coffee hour are provided for the congregation and visitors.
Prayer Chain. Prayer requests are passed along confidentially via telephone for those who wish to have prayers for themselves, other persons or circumstances.
Ask Me Desk. These volunteers serve as hosts and hostesses at the information center on Sunday mornings. These persons greet members and visitors, answer the phone, give directions, answer questions and assist in distributing literature.
Transportation. Trained drivers operate the church van to provide transit assistance for members from nearby retirement homes to church on Sunday mornings.
In addition to these opportunities and others led by the Congregational Care Committee, opportunities to volunteer in church life are bountiful. Some include ushers, musicians, greeters, nursery and kitchen workers, Sunday School teachers, youth leaders, small group leaders and many other roles.
Presbyterian Women
SJPC's Presbyterian Women are organized into several "circles" that meet monthly for Bible Study and fellowship. The circles meet during the day and in the evening. All members meet together in January, March, May, September and November for the PW Gatherings. PW also sponsors the annual Mother's Day Luncheon in May, the Saturday before Mother's Day.
